My Approach and Training

My therapy is led by trauma-informed approaches.

I utilise both talking and somatic body therapy approaches into my sessions.
I am specialised in helping those who have experienced early trauma and neglect.

As a Polyvagal Informed Therapist I explore how your nervous system helped you to survive stressful or dangerous situations. Polyvagal-Informed Therapy aims to support individuals who are suffering with chronic emotional dysregulation by

understanding the impact of trauma on the nervous system

For many people who have experienced trauma, forms of Addictions (behavioural and substance), Compulsive Behaviours (For example OCD and Sexual Addiction) and Eating Disorders develop. In order to cope with overwhelming emotional and physical experiences many people a temporary sense of regulation in such behaviours.

I offer a non-judgmental approach in supporting individuals in their recovery journey.

"I am so grateful to Jacob for his expertise, compassion and understanding. He is exquisitely skilled, highly qualified and helping me so much in my personal journey."

Somatic Body Orientated Therapy

My training in Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Transforming the Experience Based Brain (TEB) supports people in learning to feel safe in their bodies. In overwhelming situations, especially those which occur at crucial stages of early development, there are very real physiological and neurological consequences.

This can make our bodies feel like unsafe places, where we learn to habitually disconnect from what’s happening inside.

Commonly this results in the developmental of stress related symptoms such as:

Chronic Pain, Digestion Issues, Headaches, Fatigue, Sleep Disorders and Problems with Memory and Focus

"Jacob has really helped me get in touch with my feelings, understanding myself better and learning to tolerate discomfort so that it does not overwhelm me. He has helped me with my eating disorder, anxiety and obsessive negative thought patterns."

Talking Therapy

My training in Schema Therapy and Parts Work helps people to identify patterns in their life which may trigger strong feelings or parts of who they are. These Talking Therapies support developing a healthier way of relating to ourselves. This can also be helpful in understanding how past experiences may affect your responses in relationships.

I have completed additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy and Grief Counselling.

"I wanted to say thank you again. You really helped me out a lot an enabled me to develop the strength, resilience, calm and the needed toolkit to understand, welcome, overcome and heal my anxiety and depression.

I really appreciated our conversations and this has been probably the best investment financially and time wise of the past few years."

What Clients Say

Working with Jacob challenges me to show up for myself and put the work in to overcome unhelpful patterns in how I think about myself, approach relationships and respond to difficult situations in my life.
He always validates my experience, while offering a new way of looking at things.

Therapy sessions with Jacob have been one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Everyone should have someone as supportive, friendly and trustworthy as him to talk to.

My Values

Honesty

I believe in taking a direct and honest approach. To accept that no one person is perfect and we can all fall into negative habits of behaviour or can

self-sabotage.

It is essential to any therapeutic relationship to know that you can trust your therapist.  To know, not only the he will be there for you when you are struggling but also to be honest and direct with you to help you challenge yourself

Consistency

Many of us have experienced home environments or relationships in life where we haven’t been able to rely on those around us or have been let down by them.

I am committed to giving you the new experience of a relationship with someone who is reliable and consistent.

I hope that my clients in turn understand that t work together successfully, it is best with a longer term commitment.

There are not immediate solutions.

Compassion

I decided to work in this field in large part due to my own mental health experiences. These experiences together with my own journey of therapy and personal development are what help me to stand apart from other practitioners.

I am deeply passionate about helping others create real change in their lives.

I do what I do because I truly care and my own experiences help to inform my understanding and attune to your needs.
